Herbal Therapies and Cancer Treatment

Herbal therapies are one of the oldest methods of natural healing, having been around for many centuries, likely before recorded history began. Many different cultures have their own traditional herbs which are used to treat specific ailments. Even Prophetic Medicine includes the use of herbs and herbal remedies, especially emphasizing onions and garlic as cures for ailments which may seem otherwise untreatable.

Herb: 1 a seed-producing annual, biennial, or perennial that does not develop persistent woody tissue but dies down at the end of a growing season. 2 a plant or plant part valued for its medicinal, savory, or aromatic qualities.

In modern times, and with increasing frequency over the past decade or so in the West, herbs have been used to treat cancers of all kinds. In fact, the treatment of cancer by herbs is becoming so popular that it has warranted scientific investigation by scientists and doctors from the allopathic, Western medicine tradition. Traditional treatment of cancer in Western medicine typically includes pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy, and surgery. Doctors and patients alike have found that herbs can ease the discomforts of chemotherapy treatments for cancer. Even beyond that, herbs are known not only to help prevent certain cancers, but also to provide healing for cancer. Scientific research is currently being carried out in these fields, including at such prestigious centers as the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center, the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Yale Cancer Center.
