Enzyme Therapy

Enzymes are made naturally in the body, and are also ingested in the food we eat. They are necessary for proper digestive health and nutrition. Supplementing our own natural enzymes through our diet and other supplements may help in the treatment of a variety of illnesses and ailments.

Enzymes are the catalyzing agents that allow the digestive process to occur. There are 22 naturally occurring enzymes produced by the human body to allow for the digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and sugars. When these enzymes are lacking or not in the proper balance, the digestive tract suffers, and nutrients and vitamins are not properly delivered to the rest of the body. In addition to those the body makes on its own, enzymes are also provided in the foods we eat. In many cases, supplementing one’s natural enzymes has been shown help restore health to those with digestive problems or other ailments.

The scientific study of enzymes began several hundred years ago. Much more recently, doctors, medical professionals, and scientists have endeavored to provide applications based on the collective knowledge of how enzymes work. In the 1980s, Dr. Edward Howell introduced his Food Enzyme Concept to a chiropractor named Howard F. Loomis, how soon began applying the concept in a clinical setting. We now know this clinical method as the Loomis Enzyme Method, and licensed practitioners can be found across the country.
