Alternative Whole Medical Systems

Alternative Whole Medical Systems are gaining in popularity in the Western world as patients seek to replace their current treatment methods. Many Alternative Whole Medical Systems trace their roots back to specific Cultural Traditions that have survived over the ages, including Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Unani Medicine, and others. In the West especially, other forms of Alternative Whole Medical Systems have arisen over the past few hundred years, namely those of Naturopathy and Homeopathy. Chiropractic and Osteopathic Medicine are also considered to be examples of Alternative Whole Medical Systems. Today students seeking Medical Degrees may pursue the Traditional Western Route to the MD (Doctor of Medicine), or they may pursue the alternative ND (Doctor of Naturopathy), or DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) degrees.

Alternative treatment is generally distinguished from Complementary treatment, in that the latter is often used as a supplement to Western medicine and allopathic methods.
